Messenger for the patrol officer
Introduction
Communication in real-time is essential for patrol officers and dispatchers to get their job done, keep the public safe, and for personal safety.
Product: Messenger within the dispatch app inside the car.
Hardware: Tablets inside patrol cars.
Goals
Provide a way for patrol officers to communicate with dispatchers and other officers.
Design a solution that is in-car and touch friendly.
Provide a method of communication that is at least on par with what users currently have.
Share incident information and device information in real-time.
Problems
Competitive landscape prevents design from being a priority for the user.
Communication is currently not synchronous, not contextual to the task the officer is performing or the problem to be solved.
Important information is being missed.
High stress, fast paced environment allows very little time to process what you are reading or hearing.
When an officer is unresponsive, communication is completely lost.
My Role
I worked in a product called Axon Respond - a dispatch app with the goal of providing real-time communications and situational awareness for first responders. I was the product lead for the patrol officer’s touch experience inside the car.
